Letter and Community Meeting 10/10/2023 7:00 pm

Veterans and Patriots,

Please find the attached documents and read the email below carefully. We are gathering for a vital community meeting regarding the new Fire Station proposed to be built alongside our cherished Veterans Hall. This station threatens to encroach upon land that has been a cornerstone of our Veterans community for a century. We implore you not only to attend but to extend this invitation to your friends and neighbors.

Join us on this important occasion:

Date: Tuesday, October 10th

Time: 7:00 PM

Location: Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building

Address: 757 First Street, Brentwood

The second attachment comprises a letter we dispatched to Supervisor Burgis and County officials. It delves into the origins of the funds initially employed for the acquisition of the property and the construction of our memorial hall. In a nutshell, these funds were derived from a special tax, carrying with them certain restrictions and obligations. The county cannot merely reallocate this land at their discretion. It's imperative that we stand together to protect our legacy and heritage as Veterans.

Email to Supervisor Burgis

October 6, 2023

Dear Honorable Supervisor Burgis,

I trust this email finds you well. I have attached two documents on behalf of the BVMB board and the East County Veterans service organizations.

The first document is a letter that details research conducted by the BVMB Board regarding the original funding source for the property on which the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building stands. It brings to light a critical issue – the funds used for the acquisition of this property were authorized as a special tax, as stipulated under Section 4041f of the Political Code of the State of California 1921. This research presents a comprehensive history of the funding, underscoring that it was specifically earmarked for veterans' purposes and should not have been allocated for any alternative use, be it the establishment of a fire station in 1937 or the potential acquisition of additional land over the years or at present.

The second document is an invitation to a community meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, October 10th, at 7 pm. We have invited local Brentwood business, the community and the Veterans of east county. This gathering will take place at the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building, located at 757 First Street, Brentwood. At this meeting, community members will have the opportunity to raise concerns and seek answers to unanswered questions about the proposed new downtown fire station. The questions that have arisen, such as the impact on traffic, local businesses, fire truck access, and more, will be addressed. We offer you and county staff the opportunity to speak at the event.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Warm regards,
