Thank you for your recent letter County Administrator Monica Nino.

I do appreciate correspondence from you. I appreciate all you do.

I want to make a couple of things clear so that we don’t have different parties waiting on correspondence from other parties or wondering who to talk to, or thinking things which may not be true.

We have been working with and trying to contact Chief Assistant County Administrator Eric Angstadt. We have offered options to the proposed taking of land to restore land so that the net result is no net loss.

We have not gotten any response.

So, I have a summary below.

I also remind you that taking of any of this land violates California Military and Veterans Code 1266. That is against the law. Terry Murphy, who worked with former California Governor Deukmejian and helped get the veterans a new building built in Lafayette, was instrumental in providing the legal references that were in the letter submitted on August 15th. Here is that link:

I refer you to the most recent letter which contains the current Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building position:

That is our current position. We want to work together to make any legal solution work for all stakeholders.

Finally, on September 27th, an invitation was sent to you, all the Supervisors, Eric Angstadt, and Aaron McAllister for the Community Meeting on October 10th, last night. The first line in that email is: “You are invited”.

We have been very clear that the representatives for the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building are the Board, and specifically, Marine Corps League Det. 1155 Commandant Don Hester, VFW Post 10789 Commander Bill Weber, and American Legion Post 202 Commander David Martinez. There are additional and key board members and they also play a role. But, by contacting the 3 identified here, the message will get conveyed to all board members.

If we have to be absent due to an emergency or a commitment, then we do appoint someone to represent us.

If we need to take action, we do take items back to our individual VSO’s for a vote, guidance, or direction, and sometimes a vote from the full BVMB Board.

Thank you.

Some of the Letters Sent to Eric Angstadt Chief Assistant County Administrator of Contra Costa County and recent communications.

July 6th Letter to Eric Angstadt Informing of current situation, lack of communication, violation of law, objections, and request for meeting.

August 3rd – we met with the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building Board, veterans, Eric Angstadt, Stephen Griswold, and Deputy Fire Chief McAlister.

August 3rd - Letter sent email after meeting on the night of August 3rd with Eric Angstadt, Deputy Fire Chief Aaron McAlister, and Stephen Griswold, same email forwarded to Deputy Fire Chief Aaron McAlister on August 4th Letter outlining Option B to work on options for the lot line boundaries and storage. This was to outline options if the County and Con Fire were taking some property in the back, then they needed to give back some property in the front of the property so that the net result was no net loss of property. Never heard a response from Eric Angstadt, and the Deputy Fire Chief responded saying he had never seen this before. That was all that we heard. Nothing else.

Friday August 18th - Mailed Return Receipt Requested, full letter to Contra Costa County and Board of Supervisors demanding cease and desist and return receipt has been received. One of the recipients is Monica Nino, Contra Costa County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors.

No Response Received

September 27 email letter inviting Eric Angstadt, Monica Nino, Aaron McAlister, and Supervisor Diane Burgis to the Community Meeting on October 10th. Stephen Griswold from Supervisor Burgis office did call me, and I have called him back more than 5 times trying to reach him but always got voicemail. No response from Eric Angstadt, or anyone else to me.

On Friday October 6th, Commandant Don Hester also sent an email invitation.

On Monday, October 9th Teresa Gerringer chief of staff for Supervisor Burgis sent an email to Commandant Don Hester.

On Tuesday October 10th, Commandant Don Hester talked to Teresa Gerringer, and she said they did not think they were invited.

The first line of the September 27th email says: You are invited!
