Brentwood City Council Meeting – Veterans Continue to Speak Out

BVMB Board

25 Feb 2025 Brentwood City Council Meeting

The Brentwood City Council held its February 25, 2025 meeting, and once again, the veterans showed up in force to voice their concerns over the proposed Fire Station 94 location. The public comment period begins at 6 minutes into the meeting video.

Veterans Continue Their Stand

As they have in previous meetings, veterans from Brentwood and East County stood before the council, highlighting the legal, historical, and logistical reasons why Fire Station 94 should not be built on land dedicated for veterans' use. Many of the key points made by veterans can be found on our website, which we encourage the public to review for full transparency.

Firefighters Union President Speaks

At 24:26, Vincent Wells, President of Firefighters Local 1230, spoke in favor of Fire Station 94. Mr. Wells made several points, including:

  • The claim that this location was always planned for the new fire station. While this may have been the Fire District’s intent, the project did not appear in the City’s General Plan when other uses for the lot were being considered.

  • The old fire station was no longer usable due to mold and structural issues. While this may be true, it does not justify continuing to use land that was legally dedicated for veterans' memorials and meeting places for a purpose that violates that dedication.

  • Sunken Cost Fallacy – Mr. Wells emphasized that money has already been spent on planning and preparation for Fire Station 94 and that changing locations would cause delays and additional costs. However, this is a flawed argument—just because money has been invested in the wrong direction does not mean we should continue down that path. Good decisions are based on what is right and best for the community moving forward, not on past mistakes or financial commitments that ignore critical legal and planning considerations.

Commitment to Transparency

We remain committed to full transparency and appreciate the opportunity to highlight all perspectives in this debate. That is why we are sharing Mr. Wells’ comments here alongside the concerns of the veterans. We encourage all residents of Brentwood to watch the public comment portion of the meeting and decide for themselves whether the County and Fire District have truly considered all factors or if they are simply pushing forward without proper review.

What’s Next?

Veterans will continue to advocate for the City to do the right thing—not just for them, but for the integrity of public trust in how dedicated land and special tax funding are used. We encourage everyone concerned about this issue to stay informed, show up to the next meeting, and make their voices heard.

Watch the public comment session starting at 6 minutes into the meeting video.
